Tis the Season

As we approach fall and winter, I ponder all the beauty of these seasons. The fall foliage paints a colorful image in my mind’s eye as I drive along the highways and through parks commuting through the city. Change is coming. It mirrors all that is happening and all that will happen in the world. There is beauty in change. Though the leaves are dying and falling to the ground, they fertilize the soil as mulch that will give strength and new life to the roots of the tree as it blooms next spring.

What are you doing as the seasons change? Are you enjoying the view as you travel on your journey through life? If not, take a moment to stop and breathe in all the sights and sounds surrounding you. It might inspire you to create something beautiful. Or it may just relieve your stress a little bit. I know it has inspired me to always have hope for the future. It has also inspired me to get back to creating some beautiful seasonal things.

For the past two weeks, my mom and I have been making fall and Christmas wreaths—one for her door and one for mine. We collected an assortment of fake florals from inexpensive stores. These autumn colored array of flowers were placed at the bottom of wooden craft wreath rings and hot glued onto the beaded wreath to form a symmetrical bouquet. At the top, we placed an autumn colored ribbon to finish our first projects off. These took only a few minutes to create and dry off. This idea came from my research on YouTube. What a great idea it was, too. Each time we enter the house we feel the joy of the season when seeing the wreaths we made on our doors.

Later, I gathered the materials to make our Christmas wreaths. Again, I shopped at an inexpensive store to buy these round Christmas tree balls in various colors. However, I used some old metal coat hangers to create the round base of the wreath. Here’s a tip: If you use the coat hangers for this craft, make sure to use hangers that bend easily. I had a tough time bending our hangers into a circular shape. It was also difficult to twist the ends back together after placing the ornaments on the hangers. I had to use a plier to finish both or wreaths off. Yet, our Christmas wreaths turned out to be beautiful as well. We won’t display them until December, though.

Little things like creating crafts together can lead to wonderful conversations as you beautify your home or even make something unique to give away as gifts. My mom and I talked about quilts she helped her grandmother make when she was a little girl as we worked on making our wreaths. Here’s to hoping you get to enjoy the season with someone you love. Until next time, take some time to enjoy life.

Family Day on Campus

I haven’t written here in a while, because life has been filled with changes and surprises. For instance, my son is now a sophomore in college and my brother passed away recently. Through the joy and the pain I’ve grown wiser and sometimes quite weary. Nevertheless, I never truly stopped writing. I’ve completed my sequel to my romance novel, I’ve written quite often in my prayer notebook, and I’ve scripted a few podcasts in my down time. And life as you know goes on. So I’ll focus on the positive here.

I’ve since moved my son back to the college campus twice and experienced family day twice on campus. This year was extra special because we brought my eighty plus years young mom with us on move-in day and on Family Day. She was amazed to see the vast campus, the dorm suite and room my son would be living in on campus. She helped put the pillow cases on the pillows and sat and supervised my son and I as we finished setting up and decorating the room. On Family Day, we dined at the on campus dining hall and heard the President of the college speak as we ate our delicious breakfast. Later, we attended a talk held by the Associate Dean of the department my son is getting his degree in. Still later we had lunch under the big tent on the Great Lawn where we ate sliders and roasted corn on the cob as the DJ played music in the background. Afterwards, mom and I sat and decorated our little pumpkins together as my son roamed the quad playing games and winning small prizes. All of these activities were free. I even played two games and won a little white teddy bear at a ball tossing game.

There were also loads of freebies being given out at this event. I scored a mug, a pumpkin, pens, a Teeshirt, and a Nike toboggan hat. My mom and my son scored their own pirates booty worth, too. The drinks were free as well. We took and were given free photos at the outdoor photo studio they had setup. And I finally had a chance to take pictures with the college mascot. I just love my son’s college! And I love my family!

The only events we missed were the play at the campus theater and the charity basketball game at the on campus arena. Last year my son and I attended the charity basketball game with my sister and my nephew in attendance. That game was amazing! However, this year we had to make sure not to overexert my mother. So, we left a little earlier this year. But a great time was had by all. I can’t wait for next year’s Family Day. Do you attend family day at your child’s college? New Beginnings

On March 26th, I published my first video podcast on Anchor/Spotify! This was a huge step for me since I am not an extrovert. However, I was given this opportunity to become among the first group of podcasters to have access to Video Podcasts on Spotify and I could not pass on this chance. For now, the video podcasts can only be viewed on Spotify. They will be formatted as audio on all other platforms. So, stop by and give a listen, answer the questions, and vote in my poll if you have the time. The title of my podcast is…Tee’s Talk Time.

Now the hard work begins. I’ll need to “up my game.” I’ll have to improve my lighting, audio, virtual screen or backdrop, and line up guests for interviews. And then there’s the editing of videos to be done after I record each show. Or maybe I’ll get my son to do that. I guess it’ll be fun to see the progress from show to show. So, everyone be patient with me until I get a hang of it.  Try to laugh with me instead of laughing at me. And if I look tired on that first show, just know I did several takes before ending up with the final edited video.

No problem, right? I’ll just take what I’ve learned from creating my YouTube channel and apply some of it to this new venture. The only difference is that on my YouTube channel, I don’t show my face, nor do I use my real voice on screen. This endeavor is way more subjective, so I’ll need to have thicker skin. Anyhow, I’m not one to walk away from a challenge or an opportunity. I was taught to never say can’t and only say I’ll try. So, are you rooting for me? I hope you’ll listen in sometime soon. Talk to you later.
